How to Choose a Hypnotist That Will Work for You

Who should I choose to help me?

Who should I choose to help me?

How did you choose your Doctor? Bet you didn’t thumb through the yellow pages and pick out a name you liked the sound of – right?

You probably applied a bit more rigor to the final decision of who would get your trust.

Maybe got a referral from a friend, or did a little bit of background or “investigation” yourself. The number one reason people change doctors is because they end up not being comfortable in the relationship.

So why would it be any different when choosing an hypnotist? We should apply the same rigor.

The choice of a hypnotist is important in terms of your success, regardless of what habit you wish to break or the life challenge you are facing. There are a variety of things you must look at to ensure that you choose a hypnotist who is right for you and your unique situation. Here I’ll give you four tips to help you make this important decision.

1. Cost:

The majority of hypnotists charge by the session. You need to find out how many sessions are involved in their program for you in order to figure out the total cost.

Some hypnotists are hesitant to discuss cost with prospective clients until they have spoken with them. It’s in your best interests to bring up the subject of price as soon as possible. Remember too that it is perfectly fine for you to speak to more than one hypnotist. Prices vary widely in this field of treatment. In general you can expect to pay in the range of $200 to $500 to have a private session with a qualified professional hypnotist.

2 – Qualifications:

Qualifications matter. Not all hypnotists call themselves the same thing. One may call herself a hypnotherapist while another is a certified hypnotist or designated with CH after their name. Seek out an individual who has training and certification in therapeutic hypnosis. It is also important that you choose a hypnotist who is active in memberships in professional associations so they’re keeping abreast of this ever expanding profession.

3 – Making the Connection:

You need to connect with a hypnotist and feel comfortable enough to communicate on a personal level. If you don’t feel you can be open and honest with this person then this is not the right person for you. Keep looking. Whether your initial consultation is by telephone or in person, give the two of you the opportunity to see if a connection can be established.

The hypnotist in turn will be trying to decide how committed you are to quitting smoking, losing weight, or overcoming whatever challenge or self-improvement goal you have with the visits. You’ll be looking to see if this is a hypnotist that understands your challenges and provides information about what to expect. Do they seem interested in your outcomes or fixated on how you’re going to pay them. Keep in mind that you’re looking for a partnership in reaching a goal and not for a quick fix.

4 – Following the Sessions:

Once your sessions have come to an end you may still need something in the way of positive reinforcement – there are no guarantees of success in therapeutic hypnosis. You need to do the work to overcome the problem you’re facing in your life, whatever it may be.

This is both the case during the sessions and afterward. It is to your benefit to find a hypnotist who understands you’ll have difficult days ahead and you may still struggle, and provides you with tools and resources to overcome those periods. Professional hypnotists do not consider case closed once you walk out the door. They have a vested interest in your success and want to have plenty of glowing referrals.

Look for a hypnotist who understands after care and will provide you with self-hypnosis CD’s and/or additional reading materials, and be there for you if necessary to help you through the rough spots once your hypnosis treatments are over.
